Grade 3 English Classes
This is a year of an extensive built-up of language learning that would aid the success of your child’s mastery of the language. The components of grammar, reading comprehension and writing will be expanded to hone your child’s skills in reading more complex sentences, reading longer texts and answering more difficult questions.
Our Grade 3 curriculum is structured around the KET framework and will effectively equip your child with the skills and strategies in:
Expand grammar components to include perfect or participle tenses, conditional if, gerunds and other more complex grammatical items.
Develop a wide range of connectors to form complex sentences.
Understand grammar rules with singular/plural nouns, abstract nouns, collective nouns.
Grow awareness of parts of speech in grammar.
1. Grammar:
Interact with a variety of texts to promote reading levels.
Grow their vocabulary through specially chosen narrative passages that integrate well with composition writing.
Identify key words in comprehension questions to ensure relevance and precision in answers.
Hone their skills through short practices in answering more difficult questions such as vocabulary-based questions and inferential questions and more.
Expand vocabulary by deducing meaning of words from contextual clues.
2. Reading Comprehension:
Explore the introduction, body and conclusion of a story by generating ideas on ways to do so.
Use of narrative passages to pick out active words, adjectives and adverbs and body language that are effective for writing a story.
Strengthen their vocabulary and use of good expressions in storytelling.
Develop main storyline through the actions, reactions, body language and emotions of characters in the story.
3. Writing:
Expose students to a variety of audio materials similar to those in KET exams to ensure familiarity with different accents and contexts.
Develop strategies for understanding main ideas, details and specific information, enhancing ability to listen actively and accurately.
Regular practice tests to help students become comfortable with the format and timing of the listening component.
4. Listening:
Engage in structured conversations and discussion on familiar topics to express themselves confidently during the speaking test.
Use appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structure to communicate effectively and accurately.
Use of role-plays and simulated scenarios to help students practice real-life communication and handle tasks like describing experience, giving opinions and making comparisons.
